November 2, 2007We have returned to Portland and Madrid after a very long summer in the U.S. and our trip to Yunnan, China, in September. About the only thing to say is that we miss Mom terribly. We dispersed Mom’s ashes, as well as the ashes of Y-poh and Y-gon (our Chinese grandparents), in places Mom would have enjoyed: Indian Island, Maine; La Peña de Ambite, Spain; a hillside outside of Lijiang, China; and finally a mountain stream in Ringha, China. [photos starting in upper left and going clockwise] We didn’t think of it at the time, but there is no doubt that that stream eventually feeds the Yangtze, which runs through Wuhan, Y-poh’s birthplace, before entering Shanghai, Y-gon’s hometown, and then emptying into the sea. It also seems appropriate that when we left Mom in that Ringha stream, she was traveling again. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share with us thoughts and memories of Mom. Keshar & Michael *** March 12, 2008The Delaware County Women’s Commission awarded Mom the Hall of Fame Award for her contributions to the advancement of the visual arts in Delaware County (Pennsylvania), where we grew up and Mom lived most of her adult and professional life. She received the award in a ceremony on March 11 in Media, Pennsylvania, attended by many of her closest friends. We could not attend, but attached is a copy of the text that was read on our behalf by Beth Lawn: WORDS-FOR-MOM-March11-2008.pdf ABOUT THE AWARD: Each year during Women's History Month the Commission honors two women, one living and one deceased, in accordance with a theme chosen by the National Association of the Commissions of Women.
